Air & Military Museum of The Ozarks or more photos...

Art Museum:  The Springfield Art Museum offers a look at 19th, 20th, and 21st century artwork in The Ozarks, including watercolors, prints, sculptures, and paintings.  About 9,000 works find a home in what is the first art museum in Springfield, operated solely by volunteers.  The museum is near Phelps Grove Park just off National Avenue at Brookside Drive, now with a 392-seat auditorium completed in `74. Commercial Street Historical District

Discovery Center:  This downtown location, 438 East St. Louis Street, offers a fun-filled interactive environment with educational exhibits fun for the whole family. Most of the displays are geared towards a younger crowd, but even adults will enjoy themselves in this 30,000 square foot space. Demonstrations target the hard sciences, technology, math, health, the environment, culture, art, and communications. The Discovery Center charges an admission fee and is closed on Mondays. Springfield-Greene County History Museum:  Located in Springfield’s historic City Hall since `93, the non-profit organization does not charge admission.  Rather they ask for a donation to help with the maintenance and upkeep of the museum.  Exhibits range from information on the battles of the Civil War, the popularity of the Ozarks Jubilee television show, a Native American grinding store, and much more. The next grouping offers a more outdoors approach to experiencing southwest Missouri through the open air and a bit more active manner:

Balloon Sport USA:  Open seven days a week with hot air balloon rides at sunrise or sunset, this fun-filled adventure provides an aerial view of Springfield.  Balloon rides are by appointment only.  Will launch from a variety of locations in/around the City.  (417) 865-0800.

If history and the outdoors aren’t your forte`, perhaps the following activity places will be part of your experience in Springfield, Missouri:

BassPro's Outdoor World:  This enormous facility provides something for everyone! Whether Dad wants to look at fishing and hunting gear, Mom wants to eat brunch at Hemingway’s Restaurant, and the kids want to go to the Wonders of Wildlife Museum, everyone can find something to do that’s enjoyable. In addition to dining and retail experiences, Bass Pro also offers varying events and workshops such as: turkey calls, fishing classics, fundamentals of competitive shooting, hunters’ education, and more. Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts:  This facility is located on the Missouri State University campus.  It hosts shows ranging from comedy, orchestra, opera, children’s productions, a capella, Broadway, and current popular acts.  Some of the shows in previous years have included but are not limited to Bill Cosby, Al Green, Naturally Seven, Jerry Seinfeld, Riverdance, Seussical the Musical, Stomp!, and many others. Skinny Improv:  This downtown comedy club is based on improvisational humor on Friday and Saturday nights, 7:30 and 10 pm show times.  Tickets may be purchased at adult and student prices.  For more information call (417) 831-5233.

Springfield Cardinals:  The minor league baseball team is new to Springfield, but guarantees a night of fun and excitement for the whole family. Games start at the beginning of April and go into the fall. Tickets start as low as $5 at multi-million dollar Hammons Field. For more information call (417) 863-2143.

University/College Sporting Events With a number of colleges in town, visitors have many options to attend different sporting events.  Fall is the time for football games, band competitions, volleyball, the start of basketball seasons for men and women, field hockey, and much more. Springfield is home to Missouri State University and Campus Photos . . . Springfield Brewing Company As one of the few true brewing companies in the world that were built, operated, and owned by a brewing equipment fabrication company (Paul Mueller Co. in Springfield), the Springfield Brewing Company offers a full menu with anything from fantastic burgers to Teriyaki Cedar Plank Salmon.  Prices are very reasonable in accordance with quality and portion.  The restaurant/bar atmosphere has pool tables, brewing tours, and a live band on busy weekend nights.  For more information call (417) 832-TAPS.
