Great October 2007 News for RLS Alum!!!

Springfield-Greene County Park Board Director Jodie Adams was recently awarded several distinguished awards for her contributions to parks, recreation, and sports throughout the country.  Earlier this month, Adams was one of 12 recipients of the 2007 Missourian Award.  Nominees must have made an outstanding contribution to their home state or nation in the fields of civics, business, arts or politics.  Adams also was sworn in as the National Park and Recreation Association President-Elect for 2007-2008.  She will take on the duties of the NPRA President in October 2008, from Springfield, after serving seven years on the NRPA Board of Trustees.  At the September United States Tennis Association meetings in New York, Adams was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her 25 years of service to the USTA/National Public Parks Tennis Association in promoting the sport of tennis throughout the nation in the area of public parks.  The American Academy for Parks and Recreation Administration also bestowed its honors to Adams by inducting her to membership of the Top 125 Administrators in the area of Parks and Recreation for research, knowledge, education, and administration.  Only 125 people can hold the title, which either is passed on by death or by moving out of the specific professional classification.  Jodie Adams has provided 32 years of service to the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, currently serving as director of more than 90 park sites, 500 programs and activities, 40 facilities, and a $33 million operating budget.  Adams helped the Springfield-Greene County Park Board achieve its 2000 NRPA Gold Medal Award, was instrumental in Professional World Team Tennis coming to Springfield, along with the naming of Springfield as one of 50 Sports Illustrated  Sportstown USA cities.  Earlier this year, Adams was awarded the 2007 Missouri Parks and Recreation Association's most prestigious Fellow Award.  Adams holds several other honors and career highlights.
