MISSOURI PARK AND RECREATION
SCHOLARSHIP CHARITABLE TRUST
The purpose of the Missouri Park and Recreation Scholarship Charitable Trust is to manage funds contributed by various organizations and individuals for the purpose of providing scholarships to college students pursuing degrees in the field of Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services.
The Missouri Park and Recreation Scholarship Charitable Trust is administered by a Board consisting of representatives from each college or university authorized by the Trust to receive scholarships and the President of the Missouri Park and Recreation Association or his designate. The Board of Trustees receives donations and makes disbursements according to the registered declaration of Trust.
Scholarships are awarded annually to students at Missouri universities who are declared majors in Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services curriculums accredited by the National Recreation and Park Association. Students in other Missouri Universities may apply for scholarships awarded from a trust fund specifically established for majors at their university.
Scholarships typically range from $150 - $1000 In addition, the Missouri Park and Recreation Association provides a free student educational conference registration and a ticket for the conference’s awards banquet.
To be eligible, the student must:
1) be enrolled, for at least the fall semester of the scholarship year, as a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student in a qualifying Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services curriculum.
2) have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better (4.0 scale) at the university from which the scholarship is being sought.
3) exhibit a sincere interest in recreation/parks/leisure service and provide evidence of making a positive contribution to the field.
4) have the endorsement of the head or coordinator of the Recreation/Parks/Leisure Services program at the university attended.
5) Submission deadline date is ordinarily sometime in September, announced by RLS faculty.
Students who have previously received an MPRA scholarship may apply in subsequent years.
To apply (application below), the student must:
1) complete the attached application.
2) return the completed application and a university transcript to the program’s department head or program coordinator by the deadline date on the application.
Recipients will be notified in October and their department head or program coordinator will award their scholarship check in February. Recipients will be expected to attend the annual MPRA Conference during the spring semester to be recognized and receive a scholarship certificate during the Association’s Awards Banquet.
